Michael Dell visits Quanta and Compal for closer OEM partnership in Taiwan
Taipei, Taiwan (March 24th, 2009) – The founder and CEO of Dell, Inc, Michael Dell visited Taiwan recently, has brought good news to increase OEM orders for Taiwanese OEM partners after a re-organization of Dell lately. His visit also ensured Taiwanese OEM partners to have final decision on choosing assemblers and power on souring component that will boost Taiwanese OEMs revenue and profitability.
It is noted that Dell has taken Taiwan as the center of manufacturing and research and design. The OEM partners’ headquarters gather here. Dell’s consumer NB R&D center is also established in Taipei and the scale has been expanded from less than 100 to over 500 staffs and continues growing. All Dell’s consumer laptops have been designed in Taiwan R&D center.
This year, Dell’s commercial laptops are still majorly OEMed by Compal Electronics when Inventec Corp. obtained couple Dell’s commercial laptop OEM orders. Consumer laptop OEM orders were shifted from Wistron to Quanta including the latest debut of ultra thin laptop “Adamo.”
In order to offset the economic recession, Dell plans to shut down overseas assembly plants but to increase the orders for Taiwanese OEM partners. Taiwanese OEM partners can not only decide which assembler to work with but also share the power of sourcing components. Taiwanese OEM partners including Compal, Quanta, Wistron and Inventec can elevate the revenue and profit from Dell.
However, Dell is facing the severe competition from the market. The major competitor in laptop category, Acer increases a lot of shipments of netbook “Aspire One.” The entire laptop shipment of Acer is larger than Dell’s and also getting closer to HP’s.
